Hard Drive PCB Swap/Replacement Guide

Hard drive pcb replacement guide for Western Digital, Seagate and Maxtor hard drives. HDD PCB replacement refers to the process of replacing the printed circuit board (PCB) of a hard disk drive (HDD). The PCB is responsible for controlling the functions of the HDD, such as reading and writing data.

1. To replace Western Digital PCB Boards, just need the donor board has the same board number as yours. Please refer the below photo.

2060-701335-005 is the board number. All of the Western Digital PCB's board numbers are begin with 2060-.

2. To replace Seagate PCB Boards, in most cases, also just need the check the board number, as the below photo:

100664987 is the board number. All of the Seagate PCB's board numbers are begin with 100.

3. To replace the Samsung PCB boards, just need the donor board has the same board number as yours. Please refer the below photo. BF41-00329A is the board number. All of the Samsung PCB's board numbers are begin with BF41.

4. To replace the Toshiba PCB boards, just need the donor board has the same board number as yours. Please refer the below photo. G002825A is the board number. All of the Toshiba PCB's board numbers are begin with G00.

5. To replace the Fujitsu PCB boards, just need the donor board has the same board number as yours. Please refer the below photo. CA26344-B51304BA is the board number. All of the Fujitsu PCB's board numbers are begin with CA.

6. To replace the Hitachi PCB boards, just need to check the numbers on the biggest chip, as the below photo. 0J11389 is the biggest chip's number.

7. To replace the Maxtor PCB boards, just need to check the numbers on the biggest chip, as the below photo. 040104200 is the biggest chip's number.

Hard Drive PCB Board BIOS chip:

Most HDD boards have the unique BIOS(ROM or NVRAM chip) which includes the unique data to access the HDD system area. If the BIOS information is not compatible with your HDD, there is no way to read the HDD's data. Because of this, we should move the original PCB's BIOS to the replacement PCB. BIOS CHIP SWAPPING IS A MUST.

Please pay attention to the BIOS' words direction. Don't solder it in wrong direction; otherwise, the BIOS will be burnt.

Hard Drive pcb replacement tools you may need:

  • T6/T8 screwdriver, which can unscrew the PCB from HDD;
  • Hot-air gun, which can be used to change BIOS;

Note: In general, you can find a local electronics repair shop (cell phone repair shop, AV/TV repair shop, HDD repair shop, etc.) help you change BIOS. The cost is around $10-$20. You can save a lot of money than do data recovery which cost begins with $300.
